RACEWOOD DRESSAGE SIMULATOR
45-minute session with 15-minute post analysis | £50
The Racewood Dressage Simulator is a training tool championed by coaches and instructors world-wide to advance the skills and confidence of equestrians at all levels, from beginners and leisure riders to the more advanced rider and professionals, and as a biomechanics coach Natasha Olivant has found it has revolutionised her teaching and fast tracked her student's performance in the saddle, allowing her to analyse a rider's position in complete safety.
This offers an unbiased platform for assessment without any influence of horse asymmetry, giving a false picture of the rider.
WHY IS IT EFFECTIVE?
During their training, horses are taught to respond appropriately to the rider’s cues, or "aids.". In addition to these trained responses, the rider’s weight is associated with mechanical effects that are based on physical principles governing the behaviour of, and interactions between, bodies in the environment.
The effects of gravity, inertia, and turning have predictable effects on the horse, but these may be modified by the rider’s symmetry, balance, and posture, which places an enormous responsibility on each rider to strive to be the best rider they can be for the sake of their horse.
Gone are the days when advice should be followed, recommending using stronger bits or harsher aids. As riders, we need to evolve beyond that 'treating the symptom' practice.
If you find yourself enacting certain habits such as tightening when you are nervous, increasing rein pressure, using excessive leg aids to no effect, your horse is refusing to jump, is on the forehand or lacking forward impulsion, or has a negative attitude toward the appearance of tack before riding (to name but a few of a plethora of indicators), then provided it is not a physical issue attributed to the horse, all of these issues can be addressed simply by improving your horse's experience of carrying you.
The ultimate goal is for the rider to have a harmonious relationship with their horse, and research now shows unequivocally how much influence on this partnership the rider has. What Natasha Olivant brings to her students and their horses are the tools to improve that partnership, creating happy horses and riders who achieve their riding goals.
